Here you can read more about how Sentient uses your data
Last Updated: July 28, 2026
Introduction and Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how Sentient Foundation (“Sentient”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) collects, uses, and discloses personal information when you use our website and its informational pages, including the grant application portal (collectively, the “Services”). Our website is informational in nature: it does not offer any product, sell any goods or services, or allow you to create a user account. Certain features, such as the grant application portal, are governed by their own separate terms and conditions, which apply in addition to this Policy. We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with applicable data protection laws, including those of the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the Asia-Pacific region. For the purposes of data protection law, Sentient is the data controller for personal data you provide through the Services. This Policy is governed by the laws of the Cayman Islands, without prejudice to any mandatory data protection rights you may have under the laws of your own jurisdiction. If you have any questions about this Policy or your rights, you can contact us at contact@sentient.foundation.
Personal Data We Collect
Information You Provide
Because our website is informational and does not offer accounts, purchases, or a product, we do not require you to provide direct identifiers such as your name, address, or phone number simply to browse it. However, we may collect certain information when you choose to provide it, for example, if you submit a grant application through our grant portal or contact us for support or general inquiries. Information submitted through the grant application portal is also subject to that portal’s separate terms and conditions. If you communicate with us, we will collect the information contained in those communications. We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal data (such as race, health, or biometric data), and we ask that you not submit sensitive data unless it is necessary.
Information Collected Automatically
When you use our website or app, we and our third-party analytics providers may automatically collect certain technical data about your visit. This includes your IP address, browser type, device identifiers, pages or screens viewed, date/time of access, and referral links. We use cookies or similar tracking technologies to gather usage statistics and to improve user experience (see the “Cookies and Tracking Technologies” section below for details). This data may qualify as personal data under some laws, and if so, we treat it in accordance with those laws. We do not use this data to identify you by name, and we do not allow third parties to use it for their own marketing.
Information from Third Parties
If you interact with our Services through a third-party platform (for example, if you reach a grant application through a linked service), we may receive limited information from that third party with your consent. We ensure any such data sharing is subject to your control and in line with this Policy.
How We Use Personal Data
Service Delivery
We use your personal data to operate and provide the Services and their functionality. For example, we use the information you submit to respond to your inquiries, to process and evaluate grant applications, and to provide you with the information you request.
Website Improvement
We may use technical and usage information (see “Information Collected Automatically” above) to understand how visitors use our website and to maintain, improve, and secure it. Where possible, we de-identify or aggregate this data to protect your privacy.
Compliance and Safety
We process personal data as required to comply with legal obligations, such as record-keeping or responding to lawful requests by authorities. We may also process data to enforce our terms and usage policies, for instance, monitoring for abuse or misuse of the website. If necessary, we will use or disclose data to investigate fraud, security incidents, or other illegal activities, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Sentient, our users, or the public.
Communications
If you provide contact information, we may use it to send you service-related notices such as important announcements or support responses. With your permission, we may also send marketing communications about new features or products. You can opt out of marketing at any time.
Legal Bases for Processing (for EU Users)
If you are in a jurisdiction that requires a legal basis for processing personal data, we process your information under the following bases:
- Contractual Necessity: to provide you the Services as per our Terms (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR)
- Legitimate Interests: for maintaining and improving our website, ensuring security, and responding to inquiries (Article 6(1)(f)); we perform a balancing test and offer opt-outs where needed
- Legal Obligation: to comply with laws (Article 6(1)(c))
- Consent: where we explicitly ask for your consent, such as sending promotional emails or collecting certain analytics cookies (Article 6(1)(a))
Disclosure of Personal Data
We do not sell your personal information to third parties, nor do we share it for their own advertising purposes. We may disclose personal data in the following cases:
Service Providers
We use trusted third-party service providers to help us operate the Service, for example, cloud hosting providers, payment processors, analytics services, or email service platforms. These parties process data on our behalf and are contractually obligated to safeguard it and use it only for the services they perform for us.
Affiliates
We may share data with subsidiaries or affiliates of Sentient for purposes consistent with this Policy. All such entities follow equivalent privacy protections.
Business Transfers
If Sentient is involved in a merger, acquisition, bankruptcy, or sale of all or part of its assets, personal data may be transferred to the successor entity. We will ensure the new owner honors the commitments in this Policy or provide notice if terms change.
Legal and Safety
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request (for example, a subpoena or court order). We may also disclose data if we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, protect the rights or property of Sentient, prevent fraud or abuse, or protect the personal safety of users or the public.
With Consent
We will share your personal data with third parties outside of the above scenarios only with your consent.
Data Security
We employ appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. This includes encryption of data in transit and at rest where applicable, regular security audits, restricted access controls, and employee training on data protection. Our security program is aligned with industry standards and is periodically reviewed.
However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. You use the Service and provide personal data at your own discretion and risk.
Data Retention
We retain personal data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. For example, grant application information is retained for the period needed to evaluate and administer the relevant grant program and to meet any related legal or record-keeping obligations, after which it is deleted or anonymized.
International Data Transfers
Sentient Foundation is established in the Cayman Islands and operates globally. Your personal data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, including the Cayman Islands, the United States, the United Kingdom, and countries in the European Economic Area (EEA) and the Asia-Pacific region. Where we transfer personal data out of the EEA or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum where applicable), or transfers to jurisdictions recognized as providing an adequate level of protection.
Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you have the right to access, correct, update, and delete your personal data; to request restriction of or object to certain processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection or supervisory authority. To exercise any of these rights, contact contact@sentient.foundation, and we will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
Children’s Privacy
Our Services are not intended for individuals under 16 in the EU/UK or under 13 in the United States. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
